Yes. They’ve known each other about 130 years and very will likely remain stuck with each other for the rest of their natural lives.
Because he likes them.
*Most people who knew Hyssop before the incident that split his muzzle say that his personality is completely different now, it changed him from shy, meek and self-hating into an grinning extroverted loony. Atlas though? Atlas says he didn’t change at all.
*Much of Hyssop’s puberty growth spurt happened while he was cloistering himself away from others, upset about his master’s death, so when him and Atlas reunited, Atlas had a serious shock, as he’d grown to be twice as tall as him in the few years they’d been apart. Even as a sprite Hyssop had been taller than him, but still!
*Seekali forbade Sornal to discuss his abilities around their daughter, or mention gruesome or morbid things, once she was old enough to understand the content of sentences. He found this so difficult, their daughter remembers him during her childhood as mostly looking gravely concerned and being somewhat distant.
*Sornal’s first real gift to Seekali was a dead bird.
Yesterday when I was doing the stream someone commented on seeing the juxtaposition of Atlas as a subadult with a sketch I pulled up for reference of Atlas as I usually draw him, as an older adult. So I felt like drawing Hyssop as a subadult today.
At about this age, Hyssop was just getting into spellwriting, mostly because he couldn’t afford school, but apprenticing with a spell writer is free, or they may even pay the apprentice a small stipend for doing grunt work. He taught himself enough magic after work to get his foot in the door, and the rest is history.
I’m considering calling Saratoic subadults “sprites.” “subadult” is accurate but it’s a bit clinical. Need some slang here.
The person before asking what happened to Hyssop’s face got me thinking about when he was younger, before it happened. So here’s a young Hyssop and Atlas
Hyssop is about 8 years older than Atlas. They became friends when they were both subadults, but Hyssop hit puberty far ahead of Atlas, so for a while, little Atlas was leading a grown man around, because that’s just the dynamic they’ve always had.
